Does Vastu work in the UAE?
Yes. Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, and they are the same in the UAE as in India, so its guidance applies to a Dubai flat or an Abu Dhabi villa. In the UAE the compass is close to true north (about 2° east in Dubai), so the bigger risk is a floor plan with a wrong or missing north arrow, which is common in brochures and tower plans. UAE homes also have rooms the classical texts never described, such as the maid's room and the majlis.
Buying off-plan? Check the brochure plan
Many homes in the UAE are bought before the building is finished, from the developer's floor plan. That is exactly what VastuIQ reads, so you can compare units before you sign.
A screenshot or PDF page of the unit layout from the brochure or the developer's website.
Use the north arrow on the site plan or master plan, or match the tower's position on a map. Brochure unit plans are often turned to fit the page.
The plan reader marks the rooms, the outline and your unit door. Correct anything it got wrong.
Check two or three units, or the same layout on different sides of the tower, side by side.
UAE homes, read correctly
The report uses the names on your plan and reads them the way a home here is built:
Your unit door is the main door that is checked, with its exact position (pada) on its wall. The tower lobby is not.
Read like a guest or staff bedroom. Traditionally best: North-West, the zone traditionally linked with Vayu (air) and movement.
Read as a living and reception room. Traditionally best: North, North-East or East.
Read as an outdoor area. Traditionally best: North, North-East or East.
The laundry is read as a utility room and the store as a pantry or storage room, each by its direction.
A pooja or prayer corner is read as a prayer room. Traditionally best: North-East (Ishanya), traditionally the most sacred zone.
The sun over a UAE home
The UAE lies just north of the Tropic of Cancer, so the midday sun is always to the south, but in summer it is almost overhead. In Dubai it stands about 88° above the horizon at midday in June and about 41° in December; in Abu Dhabi about 89° and 42°. Daylight runs from about 10.6 hours in mid-winter to 13.7 hours in mid-summer.
These are measurements for your city, shown next to the Vastu reading, not Vastu rules. Classical Vastu asks for an open, light north and east; in the UAE those are also the sides that get the least afternoon sun.
Compass vs true north in the UAE
Good news: across the UAE a compass points only about 2° east of true north, so the correction is small. Your score still uses the exact figure for your city.
| City | Compass vs true north | Daylight, mid-winter to mid-summer |
|---|---|---|
| Dubai, Dubai | 2.2° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Dubai Marina, Dubai | 2.2° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Jumeirah Village Circle, Dubai | 2.2° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi | 2.2° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Al Reem Island, Abu Dhabi | 2.2° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Al Ain, Abu Dhabi | 2.0° east | 10.6 – 13.6 h |
| Sharjah, Sharjah | 2.3° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Ajman, Ajman | 2.3° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Umm Al Quwain, Umm Al Quwain | 2.3° east | 10.5 – 13.7 h |
| Ras Al Khaimah, Ras Al Khaimah | 2.3° east | 10.5 – 13.8 h |
| Fujairah, Fujairah | 2.1° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
Calculated for 2026 with the World Magnetic Model WMM-2025 (NOAA / British Geological Survey) and NOAA solar equations. "East" means a compass points to the east of true north.
Villas and townhouses in communities
In communities such as Arabian Ranches, Dubai Hills Estate or Yas Island, the developer and the owners' association usually set rules for anything seen from outside. Choose Own it (building rules) in the tool: the report then puts the fixes inside the home first and marks anything that touches the outside, so you can check it with your community before you change it.
West-facing apartments in the UAE heat
Tradition favours north- and east-facing entrances, but a west-facing unit is not a bad home: where the door sits on its wall and how the rooms are placed matter more than the facing alone. Separately from Vastu, rooms and balconies facing west take the strong afternoon sun in a UAE summer. The report shows the Vastu reading and the sun facts side by side.

Vastu in the UAE: questions people ask
Does Vastu work in Dubai and the UAE?
Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in the UAE as in India, so its room-by-direction guidance can be applied to a Dubai apartment or an Abu Dhabi villa. What matters most in the UAE is having north right on the floor plan and reading local rooms such as the maid's room and the majlis properly. Vastu is a tradition; it does not promise outcomes.
Do I need to correct my compass for Vastu in Dubai?
Only slightly. A compass points about 2° east of true north in Dubai, 2° east in Abu Dhabi and 2° east in Ras Al Khaimah (World Magnetic Model). That alone rarely moves a room into the next zone, but VastuIQ still corrects it. The bigger risk is a plan whose north arrow is missing or drawn the wrong way.
Can I check the Vastu of an off-plan property before buying?
Yes. Upload the floor plan from the developer's brochure, set north using the site plan or a map of the plot, confirm the rooms and you get a free score in a few minutes. To choose between units, use Compare 2–3 homes: the comparison is free, and Home Buyer Compare (US$79) adds a PDF that ranks them and includes the full report for the one you choose.
How does Vastu treat a maid's room and a majlis?
A maid's room is read like a guest or staff bedroom, which tradition places best in the north-west. A majlis is read as a living and reception room, best in the north, north-east or east. You can change how any room is read on the confirm screen.
Which is better in a tower: the unit or the building facing?
For an apartment, Vastu is read for your own unit: its outline, its rooms and its own front door. The direction of the tower's lobby matters far less than the layout of the home you will live in.
Is a west-facing apartment bad in the UAE?
No. Tradition favours north- and east-facing entrances, but where the door sits on its wall and how the rooms are placed matter more. Separately from Vastu, west-facing rooms take the hot afternoon sun in summer.
Can I change things in a rented flat or a community villa?
Yes. Choose "Renting" or "Own it (building rules)" and the report leads with fixes that need no landlord or community approval, such as how furniture, colours and lighting are arranged inside.
