Does Vastu work in Qatar?
Yes. Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Qatar as in India, so its guidance applies to a flat in Al Sadd or an apartment on The Pearl. The compass in Doha reads about 3° east of true north; VastuIQ corrects that for you. Two things matter more: many tower plans are turned to fit the page, so north has to be set carefully, and Qatari homes have rooms the classical texts never described, such as the maid's room and the majlis.
Buying in a freehold area: The Pearl, Lusail and more
Non-Qataris can buy property in designated freehold areas, such as The Pearl and Lusail, and hold long-term rights in others. Most of these homes are flats in towers or units bought from the developer's plans, so the steps are the same as for any off-plan home: save the unit plan, find north from the master plan or a map of the tower, confirm the rooms and compare units free before you commit. Check current ownership rules with a registered broker; VastuIQ gives Vastu guidance only.
Qatar homes, read correctly
The report uses the names on your plan and reads them the way a home here is built:
Your unit door is the main door that is checked, with its exact position (pada) on its wall. The tower lobby is not.
Read as a staff bedroom. Traditionally best: North-West, the zone traditionally linked with Vayu (air) and movement.
Read as living and reception rooms. Traditionally best: North, North-East or East.
Read as outdoor areas. Traditionally best: North, North-East or East.
The laundry is read as a utility room and the store as storage, each by its direction.
A pooja shelf or corner is read as a prayer space. Traditionally best: North-East (Ishanya), traditionally the most sacred zone.
Renting in Qatar: Vastu without changing anything
Many Indian families in Qatar rent, in areas such as Al Mansoura, Old Airport and Al Sadd, or further out in Al Wakrah and Al Rayyan. A rented home cannot be rebuilt, but Vastu still helps in two ways: choosing the right home before you sign, and arranging the one you live in.
Ask the agent for the unit plan; new towers usually have one. For an older building without a plan, use the Quick score with your phone compass.
Check two or three flats side by side, or the same layout on different sides of the building, before you sign.
Every fix in your report is then one you can make yourself, with no landlord approval and no building work.
Where the bed, the desk and the prayer corner go, which room is used for what, colours, lighting and keeping the right zones clear.
The sun over a home in Qatar
Qatar lies close to the Tropic of Cancer, so the midday sun is high all year and almost overhead in summer. In Doha it stands about 88° above the horizon at midday in June and about 41° in December; in Lusail about 88° and 41°. Daylight runs from about 10.6 hours in mid-winter to 13.7 hours in mid-summer.
These are measurements for your city, shown next to the Vastu reading, not Vastu rules. Classical Vastu asks for an open, light north and east; in Qatar those are also the sides that take the least of the hot afternoon sun, while west-facing rooms and balconies take the most.
Compass vs true north in Qatar
Across Qatar a compass points less than 3° east of true north, almost the same everywhere. Your score still uses the exact figure for your area.
| City | Compass vs true north | Daylight, mid-winter to mid-summer |
|---|---|---|
| Doha, Doha | 2.6° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| West Bay, Doha | 2.6° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| The Pearl, Doha | 2.6° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Al Sadd, Doha | 2.6° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Old Airport, Doha | 2.6° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Al Mansoura, Doha | 2.6° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Lusail, Al Daayen | 2.7° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Al Rayyan, Al Rayyan | 2.6° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Al Wakrah, Al Wakrah | 2.6° east | 10.6 – 13.7 h |
| Al Khor, Al Khor | 2.7° east | 10.5 – 13.7 h |
Calculated for 2026 with the World Magnetic Model WMM-2025 (NOAA / British Geological Survey) and NOAA solar equations. "East" means a compass points to the east of true north.

Vastu in Qatar: questions people ask
Does Vastu work in Qatar?
Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Qatar as in India, so its room-by-direction guidance can be applied to a Doha flat or villa. What matters most is setting north correctly on the floor plan and reading local rooms such as the maid's room and the majlis properly. Vastu is a tradition; it does not promise outcomes.
Can I check an apartment on The Pearl or in Lusail before buying?
Yes. Upload the unit plan from the developer's brochure, set north using the master plan, confirm the rooms and you get a free score in a few minutes. To choose between units, use Compare 2–3 homes: the comparison is free, and Home Buyer Compare (US$79, about QAR 288) adds a PDF that ranks them and includes the full report for the one you choose.
Do I need to correct my compass for Vastu in Doha?
Only slightly: about 3° east (World Magnetic Model), and VastuIQ does it for you. Far more often the problem is the plan itself: brochure unit plans are frequently rotated to fit the page, so set north from the tower's master plan or a map, not from the way the drawing is printed.
Which matters more in a tower: the unit or the building?
For an apartment, Vastu is read for your own unit: its outline, its rooms and its own front door. The direction of the tower's lobby matters far less than the layout of the home you will live in.
Does the floor I live on matter for Vastu?
The classical texts were written for houses, not towers, so VastuIQ does not score the floor number. What it reads is your own unit: its outline, its rooms, its centre and its front door. A unit on the 5th floor and the same layout on the 25th get the same Vastu score.
Is a west-facing flat bad in Qatar?
No. Tradition favours north- and east-facing entrances, but where the door sits on its wall and how the rooms are placed matter more. Separately from Vastu, west-facing rooms take the strongest afternoon sun in a Qatari summer.
