Does Vastu work in Ireland?
Yes. Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Ireland as in India, so its guidance applies to a semi-d in Dublin or a bungalow in Galway. The compass here is close to true north (about 1° west in Dublin), so that correction is small. What needs more care is the plan itself, because many sales brochures have no north arrow, and Irish homes have rooms the classical texts never described, such as the hot press, the box room and the sun room.
Irish homes, read correctly
The report uses the names on your plan and reads them the way a home here is built:
The cupboard with the hot water cylinder is read as a services space, like a boiler room. Traditionally best: South-East, the fire zone (scored like an electrical or generator room).
Read as a small bedroom, or as a study if you name it so on the confirm screen. Each is scored by its direction.
Read as a utility room, by its direction. Traditionally best: North-West or South-East, the air and fire zones.
Read as a garden room or outdoor area. Traditionally best: North, North-East or East.
A self-contained annex can be checked on its own, with its own outline and front door.
Mark the outline of your own apartment; its front door is your apartment door, not the entrance to the block.
Low winter sun, long summer evenings
Ireland lies far north of India. In Dublin the midday sun is only about 13° above the horizon in December and about 60° in June. It is always to the south at midday, so south-facing rooms get the most winter light, and a window facing north gets almost no direct sun between the autumn and spring equinoxes. These are measurements for each town, shown next to the Vastu reading, not Vastu rules.

New to Vastu? What it is, in brief
Vastu Shastra is a traditional Indian system of architecture and home layout, set out in Sanskrit texts such as the Mayamata and the Manasara. It divides a home into eight directional zones around its centre and suggests which rooms and activities suit which zone. Many Indian families use it when they buy, build or arrange a home, and so do people of other backgrounds who are curious about how a home is laid out.
Kept the lightest and least cluttered part of the home; a good place for prayer or quiet.
The zone traditionally linked with Agni, fire, so it is the classical place for cooking.
Linked with weight and stability; tradition places the main bedroom and heavy storage here.
It is a cultural tradition, not a science, and it does not promise outcomes. VastuIQ shows what the classical texts recommend, measured accurately for your home and your city, and you decide what to do with it. Most of the report's fixes need no building work: they are about how rooms are used and arranged.
Semi-ds, bungalows and one-off houses
A semi-d shares one wall and a terraced house two; a bungalow or a one-off house in the country stands on its own site. Vastu reads the layout inside your own walls either way: where the front door sits on its wall (its pada), where the kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms fall, and whether the centre of the home is kept open. If you are building a one-off house, check the architect's plans before the walls go up, when changes cost least.
Compass vs true north in Ireland
Across Ireland a compass points about 1–2° west of true north. That is a small correction, but your score still uses the exact figure for your own town.
| City | Compass vs true north | Daylight, mid-winter to mid-summer |
|---|---|---|
| Dublin, Leinster | 1.1° west | 7.5 – 17.0 h |
| Swords, Leinster | 1.1° west | 7.5 – 17.0 h |

Apartments and management companies
In an apartment development, the owners' management company (OMC) looks after the outside and the common areas. Choose Own it (building rules) in the tool: the report leads with fixes inside your apartment and marks anything that touches the structure or the outside as "If renovating".

Vastu in Ireland: questions people ask
Does Vastu work in Ireland?
Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Ireland as in India, so its room-by-direction guidance can be applied to an Irish home. What matters is getting north right on the floor plan and reading Irish rooms such as the hot press and the box room properly. Vastu is a tradition; it does not promise outcomes.
What is Vastu Shastra?
Vastu Shastra is a traditional Indian system of architecture and home layout, set out in Sanskrit texts such as the Mayamata and the Manasara. It divides a home into directional zones and suggests which rooms suit which zone, for example the kitchen in the south-east and the main bedroom in the south-west. It is a cultural tradition, not a science.
Do I need to correct my compass for Vastu in Ireland?
Only slightly. A compass points about 1° west of true north in Dublin, 2° west in Cork and 2° west in Galway (World Magnetic Model). That rarely moves a room into the next zone, but VastuIQ still corrects it. The bigger risk is a floor plan with no north arrow, so check north against a map of your road.
How does Vastu treat the hot press?
The hot press holds the hot water cylinder, so it is read as a services space, like a boiler room, which tradition places best in the south-east, the fire zone. You can change how any room is read on the confirm screen.
Is a south-facing garden bad for Vastu?
Not on its own. Classical Vastu prefers more open space to the north and east of a home, so a south-facing garden is not its first choice, but how the rooms and the front door are placed matters more. The report scores your actual layout.
Can I check a new-build from the brochure?
Yes. Upload the house type or apartment plan from the brochure, set north from the site layout, confirm the rooms and you get a free score in a few minutes, so you can compare house types or sites before you sign.
Can I compare homes before buying in Ireland?
Yes. Use Compare 2–3 homes: the side-by-side comparison is free, and Home Buyer Compare (US$79, about €70) adds a PDF that ranks the homes and includes the full report for the one you choose.
