Does Vastu work in Oman?
Yes. Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Oman as in India, so its guidance applies to a flat in Ruwi or a villa in Al Mouj. The compass in Oman points only 1–2° east of true north (about 2° east in Muscat), so that correction is small. What stands out here is the sun: Muscat sits almost exactly on the Tropic of Cancer, so in June the midday sun is overhead, and in Salalah, further south, it is on the north side of the sky for part of the year.
The sun over a home in Oman
Oman lies close to the Tropic of Cancer, so the midday sun is high all year and almost overhead in summer. In Muscat it stands about 90° above the horizon at midday in June and about 43° in December; in Sohar about 89° and 42°. Salalah lies south of the Tropic, so there the midday sun is on the north side of the sky for about 88 days around June. Daylight runs from about 10.7 hours in mid-winter to 13.6 hours in mid-summer.
These are measurements for your city, shown next to the Vastu reading, not Vastu rules. Classical Vastu asks for an open, light north and east; in Oman those are also the sides that take the least of the hot afternoon sun, while west-facing rooms and balconies take the most.
Omani homes, read correctly
The report uses the names on your plan and reads them the way a home here is built:
Read as living and reception rooms. Traditionally best: North, North-East or East.
Read as a staff bedroom. Traditionally best: North-West, the zone traditionally linked with Vayu (air) and movement.
Read as outdoor areas. Traditionally best: North, North-East or East.
Read as parking. Traditionally best: North-West, traditionally the zone of movement (Vayu). South-East is also acceptable.
A pooja shelf or corner is read as a prayer space. Traditionally best: North-East (Ishanya), traditionally the most sacred zone.
Indian-style plans often call the living room the "hall". On the confirm screen, choose Living room for it.
Buying in an Integrated Tourism Complex (ITC)
Foreign residents can buy freehold homes in Oman's Integrated Tourism Complexes, such as Al Mouj Muscat and Muscat Bay. Most are villas and flats bought from the developer's plans: upload the plan, set north from the master plan or a map of the plot, confirm the rooms and compare homes free before you commit. Check current rules with the developer or a broker; VastuIQ gives Vastu guidance only.
Renting in Oman: Vastu without changing anything
Many Indian families in Oman rent, a flat in Ruwi, Al Khuwair or Ghubrah, or a villa further out in Seeb or Barka. A rented home cannot be rebuilt, but Vastu still helps in two ways: choosing the right home before you sign, and arranging the one you live in.
Ask the landlord or agent for the plan of each villa or flat; many villas have one. Otherwise use the Quick score with your phone compass.
Check two or three flats side by side, or the same layout on different sides of the building, before you sign.
Every fix in your report is then one you can make yourself, with no landlord approval and no building work.
Where the bed, the desk and the prayer corner go, which room is used for what, colours, lighting and keeping the right zones clear.
Salalah and the khareef
Salalah, in Dhofar, lies well south of the Tropic of Cancer and has the khareef, the summer monsoon season, when the hills turn green and the air is cooler and damp. In Salalah the midday sun is on the north side of the sky for about 88 days a year. VastuIQ keeps the classical directions there, as everywhere north of the equator, and shows the sun facts for your exact address beside the Vastu reading.
Compass vs true north in Oman
Across Oman a compass points between about 1° and 2½° east of true north. Your score still uses the exact figure for your town.
| City | Compass vs true north | Daylight, mid-winter to mid-summer |

| Muscat, Muscat | 1.7° east | 10.7 – 13.6 h |
| Ruwi, Muscat | 1.7° east | 10.7 – 13.6 h |

Vastu in Oman: questions people ask
Does Vastu work in Oman?
Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Oman as in India, so its room-by-direction guidance can be applied to an Omani villa or flat. What matters is getting north right on the floor plan and reading local rooms such as the majlis and the maid's room properly. Vastu is a tradition; it does not promise outcomes.
Do I need to correct my compass for Vastu in Muscat?
Only slightly. A compass points about 2° east of true north in Muscat and 1° east in Salalah (World Magnetic Model). That rarely moves a room into the next zone, but VastuIQ still corrects it.
Is the sun really overhead in Muscat?
Very nearly. Muscat lies just north of the Tropic of Cancer, so at midday around 21 June the sun stands about 90° above the horizon, almost straight overhead. In December it is about 43° above the horizon to the south.
Can I check an ITC villa or apartment before buying?
Yes. Upload the plan from the developer, set north from the master plan, confirm the rooms and you get a free score in a few minutes. To choose between homes, use Compare 2–3 homes: the comparison is free, and Home Buyer Compare (US$79, about OMR 30) adds a PDF that ranks them and includes the full report for the one you choose.
Does the khareef change the Vastu of a home in Salalah?
No. The Vastu reading follows the directions and the layout, which do not change with the season. The khareef brings damp, cloudy weeks, so keeping rooms aired and dry matters for comfort, and the report notes the sun facts for your address separately from the Vastu reading.
How does Vastu treat a majlis?
A majlis is read as a living and reception room, which tradition places best in the north, north-east or east. You can change how any room is read on the confirm screen.
