Whether your chart is Manglik depends on exactly where your Mars sits relative to two reference points: your Ascendant (Lagna) and your Moon.

You're considered Manglik when Mars occupies one of six specific houses — the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th, or 12th — counted from either your Ascendant or your Moon sign. Because there are two reference points (Lagna and Moon), a chart can be Manglik in three different ways:

• Confirmed from both — Mars is in one of those six houses counted from both your Ascendant and your Moon. This is treated as the strongest form of the placement.
• Confirmed from one only — Mars qualifies from either Lagna or Moon, but not both. VastuIQ labels this "Partial Manglik."
• Not confirmed from either — Mars sits outside those six houses from both reference points. The chart is Not Manglik.

Determining Manglik status requires an accurate sidereal (Nirayana) birth chart — the Ascendant, Moon, and Mars all need to be placed correctly, which in turn depends on precise birth time, birth location, and the correct astronomical calculations for that exact moment.

Mars from Lagna

This counts houses starting from your Ascendant sign (the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your birth moment). If Mars falls in house 1, 2, 4, 7, 8, or 12 counted from there, the Lagna-based check is triggered.

Mars from Moon

This counts the same six houses, but starting from the sign your Moon occupies rather than your Ascendant. Classical Jyotish checks both references because they can disagree — Mars might qualify from one but not the other, which is why "Partial Manglik" is a distinct, common outcome.

Houses Considered for Manglik Dosha

Beyond a simple yes/no answer, VastuIQ calculates a proprietary 0–100 score — the VASTUIQ Manglik Index — to reflect the fact that Manglik status isn't binary in practice. This score is VastuIQ's own interpretive layer, not itself a classical Jyotish metric, and it's built like this:

• Mars qualifying from Lagna contributes up to 50 points.
• Mars qualifying from Moon contributes up to 50 points.
• Being confirmed from both therefore scores 100; confirmed from one scores 50.

Because Mars qualifies from Moon but not from Lagna, this chart is Partial Manglik. The Index score works out to 50/100 (50 points from the Moon-based confirmation, 0 from Lagna, since it doesn't qualify there). Mars sits in Aquarius — neither its own sign nor exalted — and no Jupiter aspect or conjunction is present in this particular chart, so no cancellation applies and no points are deducted. Final score: 50/100 — Moderate.

This example shows something worth understanding generally: a chart doesn't need to be Manglik from both reference points to matter, and a Partial Manglik result with no cancellation still lands solidly in "Moderate" territory rather than being dismissed as a borderline technicality.

Being Manglik doesn't automatically mean the dosha's traditionally-described effects remain in full force. Classical texts describe several conditions under which the dosha is considered cancelled or significantly weakened — these are called Bhanga conditions. 1. Mars in its own sign or exalted (Aries, Scorpio, or Capricorn) — the single most widely-cited cancellation condition.
2. Jupiter conjunct Mars — Jupiter's direct benefic influence on Mars.
3. Jupiter's special aspect on Mars — Jupiter's 5th, 7th, or 9th house aspect (counted from Jupiter's own position) reaching Mars.

Not necessarily, and not in a fixed way. Traditional Jyotish treats Mangal Dosha as one factor among many that a matchmaking analysis considers — not a standalone verdict. Its presence is traditionally associated with potential friction or intensity in a marriage, but cancellation conditions, the overall strength of the chart, and remedial practice all factor into how it's actually interpreted.
