Most Indian families in Kuwait rent, in Salmiya, Abbasiya, Mangaf, Fahaheel and across the country. Check a flat's Vastu before you sign, from its floor plan or with your phone compass, and get fixes you can make without changing anything. Renting in Kuwait: Vastu without changing anything

Most Indian families in Kuwait rent, often in older buildings in Abbasiya, Salmiya or Mangaf, and many move every year or two. A rented home cannot be rebuilt, but Vastu still helps in two ways: choosing the right home before you sign, and arranging the one you live in.

    1Shortlist homes

Visit with your phone: most flats here have no floor plan, so use the Quick score and note each room's direction as you walk through.

    2Compare them free

Check two or three flats side by side, or the same layout on different sides of the building, before you sign.

    3Choose "Renting"

Every fix in your report is then one you can make yourself, with no landlord approval and no building work.

    4Arrange the home

Where the bed, the desk and the prayer corner go, which room is used for what, colours, lighting and keeping the right zones clear.

    Does Vastu work in Kuwait?

Yes. Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Kuwait as in India, so its guidance applies to a rented flat in Salmiya or Abbasiya. A compass here points about 4° east of true north, a small correction that VastuIQ makes for you. In Kuwait the real question is practical: you rent, so Vastu is about choosing the right flat and arranging it well, not rebuilding. Every fix in the report can be done without the landlord.

    Kuwait flats, read correctly

The report uses the names on your plan and reads them the way a home here is built:

    "Hall" and "2BHK" plans

Indian-style plans call the living room the "hall". On the confirm screen, choose Living room for it; a 2BHK is two bedrooms, the hall and the kitchen.

    Master and other bedrooms

The master bedroom is read as the main bedroom; tradition places it best in the south-west. Children's and guest rooms go elsewhere.

    Kitchen

Read by its direction. Traditionally best: South-East, the zone traditionally linked with Agni (fire). North-West is the usual second choice. In a rented flat, the cooktop's position within the kitchen also counts.

    Pooja corner

A prayer shelf or corner is read as a prayer space. Traditionally best: North-East (Ishanya), traditionally the most sacred zone.

    Maid's room

Read as a staff bedroom. Traditionally best: North-West, the zone traditionally linked with Vayu (air) and movement.

    Balcony and store

The balcony is read as an outdoor area and the store as storage, each by its direction.

No floor plan? Use your phone compass

Most flats for rent in Kuwait come without a floor plan. Choose No plan? Quick score in the tool, stand in the middle of the flat, and note the direction of each room and of the main door with your phone compass; VastuIQ corrects the reading for Kuwait. Hold the phone flat and away from steel doors and the fridge, and check twice.

The sun over a home in Kuwait

Kuwait lies close to the Tropic of Cancer, so the midday sun is high all year and almost overhead in summer. In Kuwait City it stands about 84° above the horizon at midday in June and about 37° in December. Daylight runs from about 10.3 hours in mid-winter to 14.0 hours in mid-summer.

84°Midday sun in June, Kuwait City
37°Midday sun in December, Kuwait City
SouthSide of the sky at midday, all year, Kuwait City

These are measurements for your city, shown next to the Vastu reading, not Vastu rules. Classical Vastu asks for an open, light north and east; in Kuwait those are also the sides that take the least of the hot afternoon sun, while west-facing rooms and balconies take the most.

Compass vs true north in Kuwait

Across Kuwait a compass points about 3¾° east of true north, and the figure barely changes from one area to the next. Your score still uses the exact figure for your area.

Vastu in Kuwait: questions people ask

Does Vastu work for a rented flat in Kuwait?

Yes. Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Kuwait as in India. In a rented flat it is used to choose a flat with a good layout and to arrange it well: where the bed, the desk and the prayer corner go and how each room is used. Vastu is a tradition; it does not promise outcomes.

Can I check a flat that has no floor plan?

Yes. Use the Quick score: stand in the flat with your phone compass and enter the direction of each room and of the main door. VastuIQ corrects the compass for Kuwait and scores the flat in a few minutes.

Which flat should I choose: east-facing or west-facing?

Tradition favours north- and east-facing entrances, but where the door sits on its wall and how the rooms are placed matter more than the facing alone. Separately from Vastu, west-facing rooms take the strongest afternoon sun in a Kuwaiti summer.

Do I need to correct my compass for Vastu in Kuwait?

Only slightly. A compass points about 4° east of true north across Kuwait (World Magnetic Model). That rarely moves a room into another zone, but VastuIQ still corrects it.

What can I change without the landlord's permission?

Plenty: which room is used for what, where the bed and the desk go, the position of the prayer corner, colours through soft furnishings, lighting, and keeping the north-east light and uncluttered. Choose "Renting" and the report lists only fixes like these.

Can I compare two flats before signing?

Yes. Use Compare 2–3 homes: the side-by-side comparison is free, and Home Buyer Compare (US$79, about KWD 24) adds a PDF that ranks them and includes the full report for the one you choose.
