Does Vastu work in Mexico?
Yes. Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Mexico as in India, so its guidance applies to a departamento in Polanco as much as to a flat in Pune. What needs care here is the compass: across Mexico it ranges from about 11° east of true north in Tijuana to 3° west in Cancún, a spread of more than 13°, enough to move a room into the next zone if one figure were used everywhere. Mexico City also lies inside the tropics, so the midday sun is almost overhead in June.
One country, a 13° spread
The dashed line is true north. The green needle is where a compass actually points. From Tijuana to Cancún the needle swings by more than 13°, so your score always uses your own city.
Mexican homes, read correctly
The report uses the names on your plan and reads them the way a home here is built:
Sala, comedor, cocina, recámara, recámara principal, baño, medio baño, estudio, vestidor, bodega, cuarto de lavado, cochera and patio are read as living room, dining room, kitchen, bedroom, main bedroom, bathroom, toilet, study, walk-in wardrobe, storage, laundry, garage and patio.
The service room is read as a staff bedroom. Traditionally best: North-West, the zone traditionally linked with Vayu (air) and movement.
A roof terrace, often with the laundry area, is uploaded as its own level: the terrace is read as outdoor space and a laundry as a utility area.
A half bath is read as a toilet. The north-east and the centre of the home are the places tradition avoids.
Read as parking. Traditionally best: North-West, traditionally the zone of movement (Vayu). South-East is also acceptable.
A pooja room or a home altar is read as a prayer space. Traditionally best: North-East (Ishanya), traditionally the most sacred zone.
The sun over Mexico City
Mexico City lies just inside the Tropic of Cancer. Around June the midday sun stands about 86° above the horizon, almost overhead, and it is slightly to the north for about 68 days; in December it is about 47° high, to the south. Monterrey and Tijuana lie north of the Tropic, where the midday sun is always to the south. VastuIQ keeps the classical directions everywhere in Mexico and shows the sun facts for your address beside the Vastu reading, as measurements.
New to Vastu? What it is, in brief
Vastu Shastra is a traditional Indian system of architecture and home layout, set out in Sanskrit texts such as the Mayamata and the Manasara. It divides a home into eight directional zones around its centre and suggests which rooms and activities suit which zone. Many Indian families use it when they buy, build or arrange a home, and so do people of other backgrounds who are curious about how a home is laid out.
Kept the lightest and least cluttered part of the home; a good place for prayer or quiet.
The zone traditionally linked with Agni, fire, so it is the classical place for cooking.
Linked with weight and stability; tradition places the main bedroom and heavy storage here.
It is a cultural tradition, not a science, and it does not promise outcomes. VastuIQ shows what the classical texts recommend, measured accurately for your home and your city, and you decide what to do with it. Most of the report's fixes need no building work: they are about how rooms are used and arranged.
Condominios, renting and buying
Most departamentos are in a condominio, where the administration and its rules cover the outside and the common areas. Choose Own it (building rules) and the report leads with fixes inside the home, marking anything structural as "If renovating"; in a city with earthquakes, structural decisions belong with a structural engineer. Renting? Choose Renting and every fix is one you can make yourself. Near the coasts and borders, foreigners usually buy through a bank trust (fideicomiso); check current rules with a notario. VastuIQ gives Vastu guidance only.
Compass vs true north in Mexico
A compass in Mexico points east of true north in the north-west and centre of the country (about 11° in Tijuana, 4° in Mexico City) and slightly west of it in Yucatán and Quintana Roo. Your score uses the exact figure for your own city.
| City | Compass vs true north | Daylight, mid-winter to mid-summer |
|---|---|---|
| Tijuana, Baja California | 10.8° east | 10.0 – 14.3 h |
| Hermosillo, Sonora | 8.7° east | 10.3 – 14.0 h |
| Chihuahua, Chihuahua | 7.0° east | 10.3 – 14.0 h |
| Monterrey, Nuevo León | 4.3° east | 10.5 – 13.7 h |
| San Pedro Garza García, Nuevo León | 4.4° east | 10.5 – 13.7 h |
| Guadalajara, Jalisco | 5.5° east | 10.9 – 13.4 h |
| Zapopan, Jalisco | 5.5° east | 10.9 – 13.4 h |
| Querétaro, Querétaro | 4.4° east | 10.9 – 13.4 h |
| Mexico City, Mexico City | 3.9° east | 11.0 – 13.3 h |
| Polanco, Mexico City | 3.9° east | 11.0 – 13.3 h |
| Santa Fe, Mexico City | 3.9° east | 11.0 – 13.3 h |
| Puebla, Puebla | 3.5° east | 11.0 – 13.3 h |

Vastu in Mexico: questions people ask
Does Vastu work in Mexico?
Vastu Shastra is organised around directions, which are the same in Mexico as in India, so its room-by-direction guidance can be applied to a Mexican departamento or casa. What matters is correcting the compass for your city and reading Mexican rooms properly. Vastu is a tradition; it does not promise outcomes.
How far off is a compass in Mexico City, Guadalajara or Monterrey?
About 4° east in Mexico City, 6° east in Guadalajara, 4° east in Monterrey, 4° east in Querétaro, 11° east in Tijuana and 3° west in Cancún (World Magnetic Model). VastuIQ corrects every reading for your city.
Can I upload a plan labelled in Spanish?
Yes. Common labels such as sala, comedor, cocina, recámara, baño, medio baño, cuarto de servicio, bodega and cochera are understood. On the confirm screen you see how each room has been read and can change it. The report is in English.
Is the sun overhead in Mexico City?
Nearly, around June: Mexico City lies just south of the Tropic of Cancer, so the midday sun is close to overhead and slightly to the north for a few weeks. For the rest of the year it is to the south.
Can I check a departamento sold from the developer's plan?
Yes. Upload the plan, set north from the site plan or a map of the building, confirm the rooms and you get a free score in a few minutes, so you can compare units before you sign.
Can I compare homes before buying?
Yes. Use Compare 2–3 homes: the side-by-side comparison is free, and Home Buyer Compare (US$79, about MX$1,460) adds a PDF that ranks the homes and includes the full report for the one you choose.
