Traditionally, giving each person the zone that suits their role and stage of life is linked with deeper sleep, harmony between family members, good health and steady prosperity. Mismatched rooms, such as a couple in the fire corner or the head of the family away from the South-West, are among the most common reasons Vastu experts suggest changes. The South-West corner, the Nairutya zone, is traditionally linked with the earth element, stability and authority. That is why classical Vastu keeps this part of the home the heaviest and why it is the master bedroom for the person or couple who runs the household. If your home has no South-West bedroom, the South is the next best, then the West.
"Head of family" is about who leads the home, not age. When a son takes over the family business or the running of the house, many families move him and his wife into the South-West and the parents into the South or West. If the parents still take the decisions, they keep it.

Elders need a settled, quiet room. The South scores highest for them (90), with the South-West and West close behind (85). The South-East fire corner is the weakest choice for older people (40), and the North-East, kept light and open, is not ideal for long hours of rest (45).
A ground-floor room in the South or West also tends to be the practical choice: fewer stairs and less noise from the entrance, which in most homes sits in the North or East.

North-West (90) first, then West (85). The North-West, Vayu's zone, suits a couple who live with the elders and keeps the South-West for the head of the home. If the son now runs the household, mark him as head of family instead.

North-West (92) is the classic newlywed room, with the North (80) next, Kubera's direction of growth. Like every couple, newlyweds should not be given the North-East or South-East bedroom.

Grown children score 90 in both the West and North-West. The West, Varuna's direction, is linked with steady effort and results, which suits a working son or daughter. The North-West is the room most often suggested for a daughter of marriageable age. The South-West (55) is best left to the head of the home, since a grown child in the master zone is traditionally said to unsettle who leads the household.

West (90) and North-West (85) are best. A young child is the one family member for whom a light North-East room works reasonably well (65), which makes it a good use of a North-East bedroom that a couple should not take.

The North-West (90) is the classic guest room: Vayu's zone of air and movement suits people who come and go. Sources do differ here, and a few suggest the North-East; VastuIQ follows the North-West majority. The calculator also gives guests only the rooms the family has not taken, so a guest room never pushes a family member out of a good bedroom.

Best plan: couple in the South-West (100), grandmother in the East (65), teenager in the North-West (80) for a score of 83, Strong. The grandmother loses a little so the head of the home gains a lot; if she still runs the house, mark her as head of family and the plan changes.

Give it to a young child, or use it as a study or prayer room. If a couple must use it: a light bed with no storage underneath, the room's north-east corner empty and bright, no dark colours or heavy wardrobes, and the head to the South or East.

Every family member, or couple, gets a score from 0 to 100 for each of the eight directions. The rows for the head of family, children and guests are the same bedroom scores used in VastuIQ's Vastu Analyzer, so the two tools never disagree. The other rows were set from traditional room-allocation guidance and approved in October 2026.
The calculator then tries every possible way of giving your bedrooms to your family and keeps the plan with the highest total, where people who usually get priority count more: head of family ×1.5, elderly parents ×1.2, married couples ×1.1, grown children and teenagers ×1.0, young children ×0.9 and guests ×0.6. Two rules come first: a couple is never put in a North-East or South-East room while another room is free, and guests only get rooms the family has not taken.
Your household score is the weighted average of everyone's room score: Strong 80+, Good 60–79, Needs attention 40–59, Priority below 40. Classical texts such as Brihat Samhita and Manasara say which directions suit bedrooms; matching each family member to a room is modern practice, and we say so plainly.

If your parents still run the household, they take the South-West bedroom, the traditional room of the head of the family. If you now run the home, give them the South bedroom first, then the West or South-West if it is free. These are settled, stable directions that suit elders.

The South-West goes to whoever heads the household and takes its main decisions, not simply to the oldest person. Many families move the son and his wife into the South-West when he takes over the home, and the parents move to the South or West. The calculator lets you mark either one as "Head of family".

The North-West is the most recommended room for a married son and his wife who live with the elders, with the West next. It keeps the South-West free for the head of the home. Avoid the North-East and South-East bedrooms for any couple.

The South-East is the fire corner and traditionally the kitchen's place, so sleeping there is linked with restlessness and arguments, especially for couples. It is not a disaster: for a guest or a child it is workable with calm colours and the head of the bed to the South.

Add the people who share a room as one entry, for example two children sharing, and give that entry the younger person's type. If there are still more entries than rooms, the calculator gives rooms by priority (head of family, elders, couples, then children) and tells you who has no separate room.
