The North is the zone of water and of Kubera, linked with wealth and new opportunities. Fresh, cool, light colours keep it open: light green, mint and sky blue. Keep red, bright orange and dark brown away, because fire and heavy earth block the flow of water.

The room's direction comes first: a bedroom in the South-East should lean to peach or soft pink even though light blue is a classic bedroom colour, because blue clashes with the South-East's fire. The calculator checks both for you.

The master bedroom belongs in the South-West, the zone of earth and stability, so earthy, warm shades suit it: beige, sand, peach and light brown. Bright white and blue are avoided there. Other bedrooms follow their own direction, and soft, restful shades work best everywhere: light green, soft pink, peach, light blue and off-white.
Red, black, dark grey and bright orange are kept off bedroom walls. For a two-colour combination, use the lighter shade on three walls and the second on the wall behind the bed:

The kitchen is the fire room, ideally in the South-East. Warm, light colours keep that energy: peach, light orange, light yellow, coral and soft pink. Avoid blue, black and dark grey, the colours of water and dullness.

Read three paint brand blogs and you may get three answers for the same wall: one suggests light blue for the North, another red for a south-facing house, a third deep blue for the West. Classical Vastu texts such as Mayamatam and Manasara describe the directions, their elements and their rooms in detail; the room-by-room paint colours used today are a later, practical layer built on the five elements.
VastuIQ follows one consistent table: water in the North (greens and light blues), the sacred, light North-East (whites and light yellow), sunrise in the East (light yellow), fire in the South-East and South (peach, pink, coral, terracotta), earth in the South-West (beige, sand, brown), space and metal in the West (whites, greys) and air in the North-West (white, grey, silver). The room type then narrows the choice. Where schools differ, we choose the light, livable option and say so.

Your colour is matched to the closest of 34 colour families. For a photo, the calculator averages the pixels around your tap; for a brand shade code, it uses the family VastuIQ assigned to that shade; for an exact colour, it measures the distance in the CIE Lab colour space, which follows how the eye sees colour.
The family is then checked against the room's direction and the room type. Ideal (100) suits both; Acceptable (75) suits one well and does not clash with the other; Okay (50) is neutral; Avoid (15) clashes with the direction or the room. Your home colour score is the average across the rooms you checked: Well balanced 80+, Good 60–79, Needs attention 40–59, Priority fix below 40.

There is no single best colour: Vastu matches colour to direction. Light greens and sky blue suit the North, white and cream the North-East, light yellow the East, peach and soft pink the South-East, coral and light terracotta the South, beige and sand the South-West, white and soft grey the West and North-West. Soft, light shades are preferred for walls everywhere; strong colours are kept for small accents.

For the master bedroom in the South-West, earthy shades such as beige, sand, peach and light brown. For other bedrooms, follow the room's direction: light green or sky blue in the North, peach or soft pink in the South-East, coral or peach in the South, off-white or light grey in the West and North-West. Avoid red, black and dark grey on bedroom walls.

The kitchen belongs to fire, ideally in the South-East, so warm light shades suit it best: peach, light orange, light yellow, coral and soft pink. Off-white and ivory also work. Avoid blue, black and dark grey in the kitchen, as they stand for water and dullness.

White, cream, ivory and light yellow are the classic pooja room colours, ideally in the North-East. A touch of gold or soft saffron works as an accent. Keep dark shades such as black, dark grey, maroon and deep blue out of the pooja room.

Black, dark grey and very dark blue are avoided on main walls, and red or bright orange are kept away from bedrooms, the North and the North-West. Blue in any shade is avoided in the South-East kitchen zone and the South. The South-West avoids bright white and blue. Dark colours are fine as small accents in the right zone.

For outside walls, a north-facing house suits off-white, light green or cream; an east-facing house light yellow, cream or ivory; a south-facing house peach, light terracotta, beige or coral; a west-facing house off-white, light grey or ivory. Inside, each room still follows its own direction.

White or a soft off-white is the standard Vastu ceiling colour in every room, because a light ceiling keeps the room open and bright. Avoid dark ceilings, and avoid a ceiling darker than the walls.

Numerology gives each Life Path number lucky colours: 1 red and gold, 2 white and cream, 3 yellow, 4 blue and grey, 5 light grey and turquoise, 6 blue and pink, 7 violet and sea green, 8 dark blue, 9 gold and red. VastuIQ lists shades from eight brands: Asian Paints, Berger, Nerolac, Birla Opus, Dulux, JSW Paints, Nippon Paint and Indigo Paints. Every shade name and code was taken from the brand's own website in October 2026, and shades are chosen by colour, not by brand. Always check the shade card in daylight before you buy, as screens show colours differently.

The direction sets the colour family, because each zone carries an element; the room type then narrows it, for example soft and restful for bedrooms, warm for the kitchen, light and pure for the pooja room. The calculator checks both and marks a colour Ideal only when it suits the zone and the room.
