Vastu's preference for an open north-east and a heavier south-west was written for the Indian sun. How high that sun climbs, and whether it ever stands overhead, depends on latitude. Calculated for 2026 for each region's main city:

The principles are the same everywhere: eight directions around the centre of the home. What changes is the kind of home people buy, how the plots and towers are laid out, how high the sun climbs, and which RERA authority registers the project. Each city page covers those local facts.

No. Across these regions a compass points within about 2° of true north (World Magnetic Model), and a Vastu zone is 45° wide. Keep the phone away from steel, lift shafts and appliances when you take a reading.

Only in the Mumbai Region, which lies south of the Tropic of Cancer: there the sun passes straight overhead on two days a year. Delhi and Chandigarh are north of the Tropic, so their midday sun is always to the south.
