Griha Pravesh Muhurat 2026: November and December Dates + Move-in Checklist

Quick answer: Griha pravesh muhurat 2026 dates after Dev Uthani Ekadashi and before Kharmas are 21, 25 and 26 November, and 2, 3, 4, 11 and 12 December. Astroyogi, Shubh Panchang and Swarn Siddhi (New Delhi) all list these eight. Some lists add six more dates, which many families skip.

If your possession letter has arrived and the family is asking “when do we move in?”, you have a short window. It opens after 20 November and closes on 16 December for families who avoid Kharmas.

Online lists look longer than this because they include dates many households wouldn’t use. Below you will see which dates are widely accepted, which ones to discuss with your priest, and what to get ready in the house before the day.

Griha pravesh muhurat 2026: the 8 main dates

All eight appear on Astroyogi, Shubh Panchang and Swarn Siddhi. The nakshatra and part of day come from these lists, with Swarn Siddhi’s New Delhi calculation as the reference. Dates were checked on 6 November 2026 and apply to India (IST).

Date Day Nakshatra Part of day (New Delhi) Planning note
21 Nov Sat Revati Before dawn on Sun 22 Nov Listed under 21 Nov, but the window is only a short one in the early hours of Sunday.
25 Nov Wed Rohini, Mrigashira Through the day and night The longest window, though one other list starts it only in the afternoon.
26 Nov Thu Mrigashira Morning to early evening A comfortable daytime option.
2 Dec Wed Uttara Phalguni Late night into 3 Dec Night entry. Check that your family’s custom allows it.
3 Dec Thu Uttara Phalguni Morning only Plan an early start.
4 Dec Fri Chitra Late morning to late night Good if relatives travel in that morning.
11 Dec Fri Uttara Ashadha Early hours of Sat 12 Dec A pre-dawn window, so plan for very little sleep.
12 Dec Sat Uttara Ashadha Morning to early afternoon The one daytime weekend date.

Why we don’t print clock times here. Windows change with your city and differ by a few minutes between panchangs. Get the exact hours for your city in the free VastuIQ Shubh Muhurat Calculator, then confirm them with your family priest. The calculator uses its own daytime rules, so it may show a shorter list than this table, especially for pre-dawn and late-night dates.

Which griha pravesh date should you shortlist?

  • You need a Saturday: 12 December is the only daytime Saturday here.
  • You want to move in this November: 25 or 26 November give you the most daylight to shift and settle.
  • You want a morning puja: look at 26 November or 3 December.
  • Your priest prefers a particular nakshatra: the table lets you compare before you call.

A quick example: a working couple in a Gurugram flat gets possession in mid-November. Both can take one weekday off, and their parents arrive by train in the morning. A pre-dawn entry won’t work, so they shortlist Thursday 26 November and Saturday 12 December, check both in the calculator for their own city, and ask the priest to choose. If the 26th suits him, they have over two weeks to prepare.

Some families avoid certain weekdays. Tuesday is excluded by nearly every source, and our own new construction checklist notes that some avoid Saturday, even though the lists above include it. Follow your family’s practice on this.

Listed dates to ask your priest about

Date Why many families pause What to do
11 and 14 Nov Before Dev Uthani Ekadashi, while Chaturmas is still running. The window on 14 Nov is also at night. Many North Indian families wait. Ask if you must move early.
20 Nov Dev Uthani Ekadashi itself. Calendars show it on 20 or 21 November, depending on place and tradition. Some families treat the day as auspicious in itself. Your priest can confirm.
18, 19 and 30 Dec Inside Dhanu Kharmas, which starts on 16 December. Swarn Siddhi and Shubh Panchang flag all three. Some lists accept them, and many families wait until Kharmas ends.

We also left out 15 November, and 5, 9 and 16 December, because only one list we read showed each of them and the others didn’t.

Griha pravesh traditionally follows the same closed seasons as a wedding. Chaturmas, the four months when Lord Vishnu is said to rest, ends with Dev Uthani Ekadashi on Friday, 20 November 2026. If you are also planning a wedding this season, the Vivah Muhurat 2026 list covers those dates.

Why do many families stop after 12 December?

Dhanu Sankranti falls on Wednesday, 16 December 2026 (Drik Panchang, New Delhi), and Kharmas begins with it. It lasts until the Sun enters Capricorn in mid-January 2027. That moment comes on the night of 14 January in India, so some calendars keep Makar Sankranti on 15 January. If you miss 12 December, the usual next step is to look at dates after that.

Griha pravesh move-in checklist

The muhurat fixes the day. This list makes sure the house is ready for it.

When What to do Why it helps
3 to 4 weeks before Run a Vastu check on the room layout. Decide bed, stove and pooja placement. Moving furniture once is easier than moving it twice.
2 weeks before Book the priest, and confirm the date and hours for your city. Priests may be busy, as the season is short.
1 week before Finish painting and repairs. Test water, electricity, gas and the geyser. You can cook and host without a last-minute problem.
2 days before Deep clean the home, especially the northeast and the centre. Clear out packing waste. A clean, open home is the base of every Vastu tradition.
1 day before Put up the toran and rangoli, and keep the puja items ready. Nothing is left to find on the morning itself.
On the day Enter through the main door with the kalash, do the puja, then boil milk or cook something sweet. A common custom. Details differ by family and region.
First week Keep the home lived in, light a diya in the evening, and open the windows each morning. The house starts to feel like yours.

Do’s and don’ts for griha pravesh

Do Don’t
Check the window for the city where the house actually is Copy a time from a list made for another city

Keep water nearby and never leave a diya or havan unattended Leave flames near curtains or packing material
Make simple changes first, such as furniture and colours Break walls in a rush just to meet the date
Have the wiring, gas and structure checked by a qualified person Treat any muhurat as a replacement for safety checks
Let your family priest make the final call Treat any website, including this one, as the last word

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best griha pravesh muhurat in November 2026?

No single date is best for every family. Wednesday 25 November has the longest window, and Thursday 26 November runs from morning to early evening on the New Delhi list. Choose by your city’s hours, your family’s custom and your priest’s advice.

Is griha pravesh allowed before Dev Uthani Ekadashi?

Some lists show 11 and 14 November 2026, but both fall before Dev Uthani Ekadashi on 20 November, while Chaturmas is still running. Many North Indian families wait until after it. If you need to move early, ask your family priest.

Can we do griha pravesh in Kharmas?

Practice differs. Some published lists include 18, 19 and 30 December 2026, which fall in Dhanu Kharmas, and many families still wait until it ends in mid-January 2027. Your priest and family custom should decide this.

Can griha pravesh be done at night?

Some listed windows fall at night or before dawn, such as 2 December and the early hours of 12 December 2026. Many families prefer a daytime entry, and the VastuIQ calculator uses daytime windows. Ask your priest what your tradition allows.

Why do griha pravesh dates differ between panchangs?

Panchangs use different rules for nakshatras, tithis and closed seasons, and windows change with the city. Some lists keep dates in Kharmas and others remove them. That’s why we show which dates agree and leave the final choice to your priest.

Do I need a havan for griha pravesh in a rented flat or apartment?

Customs vary. Many families in flats choose a simple Ganesh puja, kalash entry and boiling milk, with a small havan only if the society allows it. For a rented home, a simple puja is common. Your priest can suggest a version that fits your space.
